Published in 1866, this antique book is a collection of witty and “colorful” children’s stories. Fantasy Family and fun abound! The Table of Contents Lists many of the Stories, Poetry and Music, and their authors: a few named here: Christmas Evenings, The Two by L. Maria Child. Daisy’s First Winter by Harriet Beecher Stowe. (Several stories from Ms Stowe). Harriet Elizabeth Beecher Stowe (June 14, 1811 – July 1, 1896) was an American abolitionist and novelist, who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852). It's subject attacked the cruelty of slavery; it reached millions as a novel and play, and became influential, even in Britain. It made the political issues of the 1850s regarding slavery tangible to millions. It energized anti-slavery forces in the North. It angered and embittered the South. The impact is summed up in a commonly quoted statement apocryphally attributed to Abraham Lincoln when he met Stowe, "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war!" Florinda and Florindel, from the German Grimm. Half Hours with Father Brighthope by F T Trowbridge. Memoirs of a Cripple by Burt G. Wilder MD. Many, many more. Understandably this book is in entirely readable condition but poor condition. However itr is believed that the book is in restore-able condition. The spine cover is separated, Some pages are loose but most others are in good secure condition. Some soiling here and there. The cover boards are very marred. 772 pages. This is Volume 2, January 1866 No 1. Published by Ticknor and Fields, Boston. It appears that there are no pages missing in this huge volume. 7¾ - 9¾" tall The steel engravings and hundreds of wood engravings are delightful and some pages have several illustrations on one page, to weave the story line. A true record of what children were subjected to after the Civil War to help smooth over the hard times. All in all this would make for a wonderful story time and/or a wonderful collectible of childhoods from long ago. N° de réf. du libraire ABE-16090692264

Description de la librairie : I am a closet archaeologist and collectibles scout. I am absolutely fascinated with finding items that trigger memories in myself and others. I have always loved "old stuff", even as a little girl. I used to have a huge collection of "TV Guide" Covers from the 50's and 60's as my first collection. I ripped off the covers from the old Guides before my Mother tossed them away. Then as I grew older, matching my uncovered treasures with folks and watching their memories dance in their eyes, as they peered at them, or hearing about their recall, I realized, gave me great joy. Finding something that triggers memories in someone is so rewarding to me. It is personal and a glimpse into their soul. So here I am...eager to look into your soul too! I look forward to hearing each and everyone of your stories, and what you plan to do with your new purchase! I opened My Attic's Charms here in April 2011, however, I have been selling vintage online and at a shop down the street since 2008... I love the style, organization and class of the Etsy neighborhood! Proud to be here! You will see "My Attic's" sections list full of everything from vintage clothing, kitchenware and toys and tools to pottery, paper (ephemera) and tobacianna to books and figurines and art. Ever changing and adding more almost daily, I try to keep a full array of choices for you. I search for them from Estate Sales, Antique Dealers, Garage Sales and even Dumpster Divers! That's right...I can't believe the beautiful and useful things people toss out! In that sense I am a rescue service too! Offering Free Shipping on most items in the US, and a flat rate everywhere else! But that is just the beginning... I boast 100% satisfaction reviews with comments like "Fast shipping, Thrilled, I will be back, Fantastic product selection, A great historical item, Thanks for careful packaging, Exactly what I wanted, Excellent transaction." and more can be seen at the "Reviews" tab on the left I take pride in giving you the very best service, and safe and secure packaging of my items using "green" reusable packaging.
