The mathematician, geographer, and divine Wells began his own studies at Westminster school in 1680, furthermore received a scholarship in 1686 graduating from Oxford in 1690. He was inducted to the rectory of Cotesbach, Leicestershire, in 1701-2, received the degrees of B.D. and D.D. two years later and was instituted to the rectory of Bletchley, Buckinghamshire in 1716 on the presentation of his former pupil and benefactor, Browne Willis. During the period of 1709 to 1719, Wells produced a Greek critical edition of the New Testament, published in Oxford, drawing from the variant readings collated in the edition of John Mill in the construction of the text. , Size : 8vo.
