Issue of this journal published in 1933 outside Germany. It s difficult in retrospect to find enthusiasm for the gang of Marxists who wrote for this journal and who turned into American Imperialists, at the expense of many of their contributors who did not. Horkheimer was a hysterical supporter of the United States genocide in Vietnam, napalm, all of it. He was also the mouthpiece for Adorno, who publicly kept quiet as usual when the it wasn t crystal clear to ascertain which way opportunism would pay off. Instead "the big cheese" (as Adorno was known at his university) quit, and had his quiet dinners with Max who then did the public pronouncing. It s a pity one cannot only remember the good that men do, the evil dying with them. This issue near new condition includes also Leo Löwenthal s "Zugtier und Sklaverie", M.H. s "Materialismus und Moral", Julian Gumperz s "Recent Social Trends", Jeanne Duprat s "La Famille et la société dans la sociologie française", and Gerhard Meyer s "Neue englische Literatur zur Planwirtschaft." The idea of a "Theorie zur Verbesserung der Wirklichkeit" (theory to improve reality) is announced in Horkheimer s introductory paragraph to this, the first issue published outside of Germany due to the NSDAP s total control in Germany once Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933. (For Hitler this was the successful end of a long struggle, visible for years; the morning after, Brecht amongst many others left the country. Immediately.). N° de réf. du vendeur INDE-C70337
