I had every intention of keeping all of these books! I've been collecting books for twenty-plus years, including autographed copies in a variety of fields (many lugged to signing events in New York), and wrote a book on collecting for a Random House imprint a decade ago. It's an interesting library, and I've been fortunate enough to live in suburban houses that could accommodate all (most) of the necessary Ikea bookcases. But my wife and I have relocated permanently to Manhattan, downsizing from a six-bedroom house to a two-bedroom apartment. So several thousand books have to go *somewhere*. Hello, ABE -- the site that helped me buy so many of them in the first place.

I generally pack books in boxes, with padding, and unless they're unusually bulky or heavy -- more than four pounds or so -- I won't ask for additional shipping costs. For domestic media-mail buyers, anyway. Prices for international and even priority shipping can get *insane*.
