A propos de cet article
Carlos P. Romulo was arguably the greatest Filipino statesman of the 20th century, even though he failed to win the nomination of the Liberal party to run for president of the Philippines in the early 1950s. During his lifetime he was awarded at least 82 honorary degrees by various educational institutions and 74 decorations from foreign countries. He served in various important government posts under several Filipino presidents, served as Resident Commissioner of the Philippines to the United States Congress in the 40s, wrote at least 18 books during his lifetime, was the first foreign-born person to win a Pulitzer Prize in Correspondence in 1942, was President of the Fourth Session of the United Nations General Assembly and was chairman of the United Nations Security Council. These are just some of his achievements. This book is a frank discussion of current affairs (in the 1950s, of course) between Romulo and the great American writer of novels situated in Asia, Pearl S. Buck. It is inscribed and signed by Romulo as follows: "To Bill and Gretchen, loyal friends, for whom the Romulo clan have nothing but deep and abiding affection, with the best wishes of, Carlos P. Romulo Dec. 25, 1958, 2253 "R" St., Washington, D.C." The book itself, is, unfortunately, just in Good condition. Square, solid, and tight. Completely clean and unmarked inside, excepting, of course, the inscription. The exterior, though, has significant soiling, one bumped corner, and a bit of rub wear to tips of corners, bottom edge of spine. The dust jacket is missing. Still, a book of historical interest which would make a wonderful gift for anyone who is interested in the Philippines. Will be bubble-wrapped and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery. Comes with a letter of authentication from a previous owner. N° de réf. du vendeur ABH429
