The date should be 1844, and moreover this volume does not include the 38 page "Twelfth Report of the Directors of the New Zealand Company" itself, but consists of the more voluminous ten Appendices to that report (along with the "Charters of the New Zealand Company" on pages (3)-17, the "Supplemental Charter", 4th August 1843, on pages 18-19, + xlvii pages of contents). Page dimensions: 207 x 131mm. Correspondence between directors of The New Zealand Company, the Colonial Department. Includes correspondence of Colonel Wakefield; Captain Arthur Wakefield; F. Dillon Bell; Lord Stanley; Mr Somes; Captain Hobson; & others. Appendix E is titled "Colonial and Supplementary Correspondence Respecting the Company's Land-Titles. 1841 to 1843. Appendix G is titled "Endowments for the Colonial Church and the Natives. 1840 to 1843". [A. Fair's "Guide to Book Values - New Zealand [. . . ] Book Auction Records 1962-1967" records the sale of a similar volume: "Appendices A-K £12/10/- lacking title page and map, Feb. 1967".] This volume colloquially known as the "fat book" [Hocken, "Bibliography of New Zealand Literature" pp. 86-87 - "This important volume was known, from its thick, clumsy shape, as the 'fat book." Also c.f. Hocken p. 116 for a description of the contents of an edition reprinted for the [British] House of Commons - "correspondence with the Company, land claims and list of claimants, Wairau massacre, and letters and despatches containing a perfect mass of history." Correspondence relating to the Wairau massacre is found in Appendix H. The New Zealand Company directors' reports are outside the scope of Bagnall's New Zealand bibliography. Hocken in the Introduction to his "Bibliography" notes that he has chosen to give fuller contents listings for the New Zealand Company reports, "Similarly are collected at some length many publications of another class, but also of rarity, such as the reports of the New Zealand Company, the 'Colonial Gazette', the 'New Zealand Journal', the 'Australian and New Zealand Gazette', the 'Karere Maori', and the 'Government Gazette'. - Hocken, page vi.]; 8vo.
