8vo. A handsome compilation of stories of the Chesapeake region, written by one of the foremost correspondents of the Civil War. 'Gath' was Townsend's pen name and the name under which he wrote most of his works. Square tight binding. Clean interior, save for contemporary owner signature to front endpaper and flyleaf. Brick-colored cloth with black embossed illustrated boards and gilt to spine. Scarce title in a 1st Edition format. Mild rubbing and wear to binding, with a touch of fraying at spine ends. 285pp. Presents handsomely in a clear, archival mylar dust jacket. Overall, a very desirable Maryland collectible.
