Description :
This is an 1851 printing of the 1847 First Edition. Half-bound in tan polished calf over textured tan cloth. The title in gilt on tan labels; the author and vol. number in gilt on black labels -on the spines. Four raised bands tooled in gilt. Corners softly bumped. Scratches on the top compartments with some rubbing wear. Beautiful feathered marbled edges and endpapers. Frontis of Vol. I Francisco Pisarro is clear with the slightest tan transfer from tissue guard. Frontis of Vol. II Pedro De La Gasca, Viceroy of Peru, has some darker tan transfer from tanned tissue guard. There is occasional light foxing, predominately in the margins, in both volumes. Small number-146 -stamped in red on the half title pages. Otherwise the books are clean and unmarked and bindings are firm. Vol. I-527 pp ; Vol.II-574 pp. A very old and handsome set.
