First Printing of this edition illustrated by Michael Hague. Not as common as you might expect and this is a decent copy. Green faux leather covers with gilt decoration to the upper cover (Tolkien's monogram) and gilt titles to the backstrip. pp. 290, with numerous full page colour plates. Corners slightly swollen, the block is lightly tanned overall but the binding is firm and square and the book is free from previous owner markings etc - VG indeed, even Near Fine. The jacket is unclipped but has a quarter-inch split at the crown. Rubbed with loss of laminate at the corners. One or two other minor gashes to the laminate and tanned along the upper and lower edge of the flaps. Nevertheless, better than it probably sounds, Good to VG. N° de réf. du vendeur 1901200129

Paperback. Etat : Used. In a world where hobbits have little to no concept of personal hygiene and dragons are merely misunderstood fire-breathing lizards with a penchant for hoarding gold, you?ll find yourself irresistibly drawn into the quirks and quibbles of JRR Tolkien?s masterpiece. This particular 1983 Unwin edition of "The Hobbit" is more than just a book; it?s a veritable time capsule of yore, complete with a few dog-eared pages, the faint scent of old tea, and a bookmark that is, frankly, an unsent love letter. It?s the kind of treasure you might stumble upon while searching for an old sock, only to find that this sock has an entire world inside it. Step into the shoes of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit whose idea of a wild night includes second helpings of seed cakes and a good book. But fear not, he?s thrust into an adventure that promises to upend his very snug existence. Imagine if you will, a creature that?s not just cranky, but outright hostile: the dragon Smaug, who refuses to take ?no? for an answer when it comes to his vast mountain of gold. He?s less of a fire-breathing behemoth and more of a very disgruntled landlord, wanting nothing more than to keep those pesky adventurers at bay. As you flip through the pages, you?ll be greeted by a chorus of dwarves who are somehow both heroic and ridiculously incompetent at the same time. They embark on a quest filled with riddles, trolls, and the occasional existential crisis. Should Bilbo take up the mantle of heroism? Or should he just go back home, put his feet up, and contemplate the merits of a good cuppa? Spoiler alert: there?s a lot of running, hiding, and a questionable amount of camaraderie that would make any friendship bracelet blush in shame. Ah, and let us not forget the infamous One Ring?the ultimate piece of bling that?s both coveted and cursed. This shiny trinket doesn?t come with a manual, but it sure does come with a lot of emotional baggage. Imagine the stress of ownership: one minute you?re having a cozy afternoon tea, and the next you?re embroiled in an epic struggle between good and evil. The Ring has more ups and downs than a soap opera star?s career! For those of you considering this delightful tome for your own collection, here are some essential points to ponder: Full of whimsical landscapes and farcical characters that make your in-laws seem rather normal. Includes a world where it?s perfectly acceptable to wear socks with sandals?fashion-forward, indeed! Every page turns like the promise of a grand adventure, though your living room couch may not agree. Offers a veritable buffet of bizarre encounters with creatures that are as likely to steal your heart as they are to steal your gold. Contains more songs than a John Denver concert, which you may or may not appreciate. Condition: This used edition has seen its fair share of adventures, with pages slightly yellowed from endless readings and the occasional smudge that could be a leftover snack from a late-night reading session. Expect a high level of nostalgia with every turn, and perhaps a few surprises in the form of doodles that never quite made it into the final draft of Middle-earth. Don?t let its slightly worn cover fool you; this is a classic that deserves a spot on your bookshelf, if only to impress your guests with your eclectic taste in literature. Whether you?re revisiting Bilbo?s escapades or discovering them for the first time, this edition of "The Hobbit" is a reminder that sometimes, the most magical journeys start from the comfort of your own home. So grab your walking stick, put on your shiniest waistcoat, and prepare to explore the pages of this literary treasure, courtesy of Crappy Old Books. N° de réf. du vendeur 2466
