1891. First edition. xviii, 298pp., Third edition. 23 pp., a frontispiece and five other tissue-guarded plates, 47 illustrations in the text (some full-page), and a 4-page catalogue. Top edge gilt. Talfourd Ely (1838-1923) was a British archaeologist, classicist and author, probably best known for his Manual of Archaeology published in 1890. The present work is an introduction to Classical Mythology, based on and partly translated from Hans Dütschke's 'Der Olymp'. The book is bound in the original green ckoth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and light staining to the boards. There is wear to the cloth on the corner tips and down the front spine edge and the spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth. The book has fairly recently been recased and given new black endpapers, and as a result the contents are tight and secure. The pages are clean with an attractive hand-written prize inscription from 1896 on the second front free endpaper. N° de réf. du vendeur gMythEtc05
