The book written after the success of Charles Reade's play " Masks and Faces ", about the life of Peg Woffington. Written by Dramatist and author Charles Reade . Charles Reade was said to have an eye for scene, situation and dialogue, a very popular and prolific author of his times. Charles Reade was an English novelist and dramatist, best known for The Cloister and the Hearth. Reade began his literary career as a dramatist, and it was his own wish that the word "dramatist" should stand first in the description of his occupations on his tombstone.
