Description :

FIRST EDITION. 2 vols. in 1, folio, separate title-pages, continuous register and pagination, rebound quarter calf. ["In Erskine's time the growing commercial ardour of the country had been dampened by the disastrous failures of the schemes which precede the union of the kingdoms, and the law of heritable rights had assumed renewed importance owing to the wholesale forfeitures which followed upon the rebellions of 1715 and 1745. It is as an exponent of the old law of Scotland as it developed to meet the altered circumstances of the country that Erskine occupies a position of unchallenged authority. The task which he set himself was to state plainly and accurately the law as it was, and he did so in simple and direct language. Erskine's work is of the highest value and authority. He has been called the lawyer of common sense, and if by that is meant that he contented himself with accurate presentation of his subject, was direct but not subtle, practical rather than philosophical, the description is merited." An introductory survey of the sources and literature of Scots law by various authors. Stair Society, 1936. p.67.]. N° de réf. du libraire

Description du livre Gale Ecco, Print Editions, United States, 2010. Paperback. État : New. 189 x 246 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. This collection reveals the history of English common law and Empire law in a vastly changing world of British expansion. Dominating the legal field is the Commentaries of the Law of England by Sir William Blackstone, which first appeared in 1765. Reference works such as almanacs and catalogues continue to educate us by revealing the day-to-day workings of society.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes than this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN perfect bound, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This book is printed on demand on acid-free paper. 602 pages.
