Éditeur : Harper & Brothers, New York

Date d'édition : 1874

Reliure : Hard Cover

Etat du livre : Good

Description :

426 pages, frontispiece (engraved portrait) shows some evidence of dampstaining, green cloth, bookplate - plain piece of paper with owners signature inside front cover, an additional portrait of the author pasted on front blank endpaper, otherwise very good. 'Harpers Library Edition' on spine. From the preface: "The various papers of which the following collection is composed were most of them written some years since, and were all originally published -with many more, which I have not thought it desirable to reprint - in 'Household Words,' and in the earlier volumes of 'All the Year Round.'" "From the Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition: "William Wilkie Collins, 1824-89, English novelist. Although trained as a lawyer, he spent most of his life writing, producing some 30 novels. He is best known for two mystery stories, The Woman in White (1860) and The Moonstone (1868), which are considered the first full-length detective novels in English and among the best of their genre; they helped to define the genre of literary melodrama which would peak at the end of the century. Collins's heroines are drawn with considerable clarity and sympathy. He was a friend of Dickens, in whose periodical Household Words many of Collins's novels first appeared.".
