From 1959 through 1962, former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt hosted twenty-seven roundtable discussions to tackle critical issues of the day that were important to Americans, as well as to the international community of academics, journalists, philosophers, and politicians. Guests: Raymond Aron (1905-1983), one of France's leading political writers, professor of Sociology at the Sorbonne, influential columnist for the Le Figaro, France's leading newspaper, and author of several books including The Century of Total War; Maurice Schumann, (1911-1998), president of the French Assembly's Foreign Affairs Commission; Stephen Hessel, career diplomat, director of International Cultural Exchange at the Ministry of National Education in Paris; Alfred Grosser, professor of political science at the Institute of Political Sciences and visiting professor at the Johns Hopkins University Center in Bologna. Please note: The archival material in this program went through many format changes before its present configuration.
