From 1959 through 1962, former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt hosted twenty-seven roundtable discussions to tackle critical issues of the day that were important to Americans, as well as to the international community of academics, journalists, philosophers, and politicians. Guests: Chester Bowles (1901-1986), Governor of Connecticut (1948-50), Undersecretary of State, Ambassador to India (1951-53; 63-69); Paul Hoffman, managing director of the United Nations Special Fund, Barbara Ward (Lady Jackson) D.B.E. (1914-1981), distinguished economist and writer; B. K. Nehru, Commissioner-General for economic Affairs in India and roving economic ambassador; Max Millikan (1913-1969), director of the Center for International Affairs at MIT, and president of the World Peace Foundation. Please note: The archival material in this program went through many format changes before its present configuration. Although the film contains some insurmountable technical flaws, all efforts have been made to produce the best possible image and audio. The contents of the series, its participants, and the times in which this program were produced are invaluable resources and offset any blemishes the viewer may encounter.
