Revue de presse :
"Mark Seliger’s collection of nudes, portraits and landscapes is just about the handsomest book of photographs to be published in a while. Every detail of “Listen,” from the quality of the binding and endpapers to the selection and reproduction of the platinum-plated prints, is a book-lover’s treat. Mr. Seliger is such a believer. And he has put together a book, with Rizzoli, that sharpens the senses for the silent and seemingly insignificant. He is well known for his portraits of actors and musicians and his fashion work for magazines, among them Vanity Fair and Italian Vogue. “Listen” displays a natural feeling for things that hover between ordinary and monumental, sad and self-renewing." ~New York Times
"In his new book, Listen (Rizzoli), GQ photographer Mark Seliger sends the hair and makeup people packing and shoots stark, exquisite photos that have nothing to do with celebrity, but everything to do with photography." ~GQ
"Must-Read Books: Mark Seliger shares intimate, never-before-seen photos in Listen." ~Harper's Bazaar
“...the series of intimate photographs (reproductions of platinum-plated prints) convey a strong sense of warmth and melancholy, despite the somewhat dark subject matter.” ~New York Magazine
“In his latest book Listen, out from Rizzoli New York, he focuses on people less known but just as textured. These photos of pierced people show body jewelry as true style, wild cultural adornment and exalts the flesh as the ultimate canvas. Seliger captures the full expression of his subject and they in turn feel completely dressed in these striking nudes.” ~Fader
"Mark Seliger's intimate collection of landscapes, still lifes, and nudes are captured in Listen." ~Vanity Fair
"Rizzoli releases Listen, a personal collection of evocative nudes, landscapes and still lifes that focus entirely on light and shadow in black and white. The book also includes text by Seliger and Fred Woodward. Another beautiful book in Rizzoli's wonderful fall catalogue." ~Flaunt
"Best known for his portraits of celebrities and musicians, he was the chief photographer for Rolling Stone from 1992 to 2002, shooting over one hundred covers for the magazine. Listen (Rizzoli, $75) displays Seliger's personal collection of landscapes, nudes, close-up still lifes, portraits, and spectacular photographs of New York City -- all capturing the essence of light and shadow." ~THE
Présentation de l'éditeur :
The highly acclaimed contemporary photographer presents his private and evocative nudes, landscapes, and close-up still lifes. Listen is in a sense a memento mori, which follows in the tradition of many photographers (Weston, Stieglitz) and artists (Cézanne) who, at a certain age, focus on the nude, landscapes, and still lifes. It highlights Mark Seliger’s personal reflections on seeing and on the passage of time. Best known for his portraits of celebrities and musicians, Listen is a compilation of works from Seliger’s private collection that captures the essence of light and shadow, and whose photographs speak to us metaphorically. The book includes more than ninety tritones, each printed with a turn-of-the-century platinum palladium photographic process, a process that results in a highly detailed, rich texture. Many of the photographs were made especially for this book and will be published for the first time. In 2009, Seliger was the recipient of the Lucie Award for outstanding achievement in portraiture.
