This Imprint Society edition is a much, much more attractive and better-made book than the cheap Weathervane reprint. From the editor's Preface: "There are very few books of a historical nature which deserve republication after 160 years of existence. Isiah Thomas's HISTORY OF PRINTING IN AMERICA is one of them. His book is still the beginning point for most investigations into the history of American printing, for he provides the tantalizing clues for which his successors have built their own studies. Further, his personal knowledge of many of the people and events which he describes in a frank and unadorned manner makes excellent and often amusing reading." Bound in the original blue cloth, stamped in bright gold on the spine. Complete with original tan slipcase on which is mounted a facsimile of the 1810 first edition's title page. 6.75" wide by 10.25" tall by 2.5" thick. Chalmers 155. SIGNED by the EDITOR. Blue cloth, stamped in gilt, in a box with facsimile of first edition title. Fine. Stinehour designed the book, using Monotpe Bembo and Centaur types. The frontispiece portrait of Isaiah Thomas, a copperplate stipple engraved for the "Freemason's Magazine" of Novermber 1811 by W. R. Jones of Philadelphia, was pulled from the original plate ow in the American Antiquarian Society. The title page eagle was drawn specially for this book and is based on elements of two type ornaments from the Binny & Ronaldson type foundry in Philadelphia, whose types Thomas used in printing this work in 1810. An original leaf from that edition, printed by Thomas in Worcester, is included in this Imprint edition. The text paper is Imprint, made by Monadnock Paper Company. The book was bund by New Hampshire Bindery in Concord, New Hampshire. This is copy number 903 (Numbered and signed by McCorison.). N° de réf. du vendeur 55093
