A propos de cet article

207 pages, 2 maps, cloth, dj, very good. From the dust jacket, 'Born in 1404, Gilles de Rais became by inheritance one of the richest nobles in France. He accumulated glory: the foremost champion of Joan of Arc, he was made a Marshal of France at twenty-five. Then following her death, a shadow fell over his life: his name became linked with over 140 to 200 highly organized, premeditated and monstrous sex crimes, his extravagance exceeded all bounds, and as his fortune declined he turned to black magic and alchemy. He was hanged and burned for his crimes in 1440. N° de réf. du libraire 11789

A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

This work aims to get behind the myths and present the real Bluebeard, Gilles de Rais, one of the most enduring baddies of history. His infamy lives on, the precursor of our own time's serial killers and a founding father of the cult of the child-snatching bogeyman.

About the Author:

Jean Benedetti was principal of the Ruse Bruford School of Speech and Drama and wrote a well-received biography of Stanislavski (Routledge, 1988), as well as works on the Moscow Arts Theatre and an edition of Cheklov's letters to Olga Knipper.
