12 original correspondence letters The Mothercraft Training Society on letter-headed paper, dated 1928. The regime instituted by the Babies of the Empire Society was based on the tenets of Sir Frederic Truby King, a New Zealand paediatrician who had dramatically reduced the infant mortality rate by nearly half in his own country. He had been invited by the Society in 1917 to advise on the training to be given at its Mothercraft Training Centre at Nos. 29-31 Trebovir Road, which would later be officially opened by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr W. F. Massey, on 9th July 1918. Member of the P.B.F.A. SOCIAL & HUMANITIES.

The first edition of this collection of essays from the Arts and Crafts Movement, with a preface by British textile designer, William Morris. First edition. A collection of essays written by members of The Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society, which was formed in London in 1887 to promote the exhibition of decorative arts alongside fine arts. The society was very important in the flowering of the British Arts and Crafts Movement prior to World War I. With chapters on design, handicraft, painting, textiles, metal work, stained glass, printing, bookbinding, furniture, embroidery, and much more. Includes a preface by William Morris, a British textile designer, poet, artist, writer, and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. Previously held in the library of Hugh Arnold, an English stained glass artist. With an inscription in Latin and illustration to the front pastedown, typical of French schoolboys, which reads: Aspice Pierrot pendu / quod librum non a rendu / si Pierrot librum reddidisset / Pierrot pendu non fuisset. Look a Pierrot hanging / that the book was not returned / if Pierrot had returned the book / Pierrot would not have been hanged. Publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Light age toning and scattered spotting to the endpapers. Some of the publisher's advertisement textblock remains unopened. Contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown. Very Good. book.
