Fully bound in burled calfskin, gold tooling to each board, The spine contains two leather labels for Book and Volume. The two boxes containing the darker leather titling boxes are set oof by four of the seven gold bands upon the spine. The remaining unadorned boxes are stamped with a medallion. The engraved plates found to the close of the text in this volume portray events that I think of in an Olympic context; Wrestling, Discus, Pugilists.' A very good copy of volume one only with only very modest wear to extremities.

Book actually feels good and sturdy in hands, fold-out map present, pages (with small print and tiny footnote print) still clean. That said, book is old and much worn, with spine bumped and torn at top. Block is wobbly and stiff, with ragged edges and general darkening. Now protected.
