A first edition of this Victorian cookbook, illustrated with twenty nine engravings A first edition of this late-Victorian cookery book. With twenty nine in-text engravings, collated and complete. In this work comprised of twenty two chapters, M. M. Mallock instructs her readers on how to make a broad range of foods including soups, pastries, jellies, and compotes. As well as offering advice on the preparation of poultry and fish, the volume also contains a chapter on how manage food expenditure and keep weekly accounts. Paper for front and rear pastedown carries the symbol of the Royal Army Pay Corps, which was the corps of the British Army responsible for handling financial matters before it was amalgamated into the Adjutant General Cr in 1992. Sticker from London bookseller to front pastedown. 'W.&G. Foyle LTD. 119-125 Charing Cross Rd. London. W.C.2.' Sticker from Hertford bookseller to front pastedown. 'Simson & Co. Market Place, Hertford'. In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, rather smart. Lightly rubbed at the joints with some minor wear to the extremities. A little bumped to the head and tail of the spine with one small closed tear to the head. Front and rear hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout with the very occasional mark. Very Good. book.
