Hardcover. First Shambhala Edition (1996), So stated. First printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. Near Fine in Very Near Fine DJ: The Book shows a tiny dot of soiling at the upper corner of the front panel; a former owner's personalized bookplate at the hal-title page; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing a minor, unobtrusive cosmetic flaw and the bookplate. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Very close to "As New". NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio. (12.15 x 9.25 x 1.15 inches). 271 pages. Introduction by Fernand Meyer. Profusely illustrated in color. Field Photography by Mark de Fraeye. Language: English. Weight: 61.7 ounces. Decorated Endpapers. Red cloth over boards with gilt titles at the front panel and backstrip. Appears to have been first published in 1995 by Serindia Publications of Chicago. Hardback with DJ. One of those rare books that is both beautiful and informative. Its editors have overseen 17 contributors from 11 countries in creating a panorama of Indian, Tibetan, and Chinese theoretical, diagnostic, and clinical medicine. All the contributors emphasize the importance of the body-mind relationship, refreshingly not only giving information, but also correcting myths (e.g., that certain Indian surgical procedures are of great age). Photographer Mark De Fraeye initiated the idea for this book and provided some of its 84 color illustrations from his own collection. Selected from many locations, these add both to the beauty of the book and to the information in it. Well-chosen notes and references will help inspired readers pursue any of the book's many topics.
