Edition originale
Paris, Baudouin, Imprimeur de l'Institut National, Floréal an XI (1803), in-4°, (4)nn pp + 121 pp + one large folding plate. Sewn, orig. blind marbled wrapper, uncut copy with dusty margins and a discoloured spine with some loss of paper at top end of spine. Small marginal tear repaired in the folding plate, but overall still a good copy. First edition of the translation in Latin and French of the ancient Greek text on the Rosetta Stone. Ameilhon continued the work of Gabriel de la Porte du Theil (1742 - 1815) who could not finish this work. This publication opened the way to the deciphering of the Egyptian text on the stone , partly by Thomas Young in 1814 and finally by Champollion, Paris, 1822.
