Red cloth boards have a good bit of edge wear and fraying at corners. Backside has moisture staining and some other marks and stains. Front illustration has a missing section torn from cloth at left lower margin. Some marks and smudges on illustration as well. Binding has been professionally repaired with glue, and is sturdy as a result. Some light moisture stains to outer margins of pages in last third of book, as well as some other smudges. A few pages towards front have had tears repaired with white paper tape. Despite condition, still a very readable copy. LO.

Unpaginated. Brown titles to upper cover with inlaid colour illustration of girl with watering can on cream cloth boards. Covers are soiled and stained with bumping to the cover corners. Spine is worn with a two inch tear to the head of the spine. Tanning to page edges and end papers. Rusting to staples in the end papers. Neat owner's bookplate to front fep otherwise no inscriptions. Interior text and illustrations are clean with light spotting to the head of the text towards the end of the book. OK as a reading copy.

REPRINT circa 1928 (another copy inscribed with this date), 4to, 250 x 185 mm, 9¾ x 7¼ inches, cloth backed colour illustrated boards (not by Anderson: Mother tucking up a little boy in bed), 77 pages. 8 delightful colour plates by Anne Anderson for fairy stories featuring little children. Line illustration in the text also. As well as little girls and boys there are fairies and gnomes, animated toys and chimney pots, dressed cats and water-rats. Corners very slightly worn, small graze and very slight staining to lower plain grey board, occasional very light foxing, endpapers faintly browned. Very early reprint circa 1918, 275 x 215 mm, 10¾ x 8¼ inches, blue cloth backed buff boards, lettered navy blue on spine, in cream on upper cover on large mounted colour plate showing 5 children singing, plain endpapers, 87 pages including illustrated half-title and title page. Coloured frontispiece of children dancing to Sur le Pont d'Avignon, title page printed blue and black, 7 further delightful colour plates and numerous black and white illustrations for 32 well known children's songs. Tiniest bump to top corner of lower cover, no inscriptions, no foxing or browning. A near Fine copy in good DUSTWRAPPER (dw: a bit tattered (see image), a small narrow triangular slit through part of lettering on upper panel, a 10 mm (½") chip to lower edge of the same, a few short closed edge tears, reverse has old paper repair to head of spine and several modern repairs with adhesive tape). This reprint has buff boards instead of dark blue and is very slightly smaller than the first edition. Otherwise they are identical. Later editions have the imprint "George Harrap & Co.
