Hardcover. Etat : Good. A true sequel to 'La Dame de Monsoreau.' It concerns the revenge of Diane de Meridor upon the Duc d'Anjou for his base betrayal of Bussy d'Amboise. Historically it commences with the execution of Salcede and the arrival of the Forty-Five at Paris, and deals with the Guise intrigues, the campaign of Anjou in Flanders and his death. Period 1584-85. Maquet was again the collaborator. During the fete held at Villers-Cotterets in 1902 the original MS. of this romance was exhibited, half being in the hand of Dumas pere, and the remainder, the latter moiety, in that of his son, with a note signed by this latter to the effect that his father, being confined to his bed by sickness, had dictated it to the younger man. Yet in face of this it has been repeatedly affirmed that Maquet finished it alone. Stamp from previous bookseller on page one. Dust jacket aged with tears on spine. Green cloth-covered boards, gilt titles on spine. Top text block edge sprayed green illustrated endpapers.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: Marguerite Gautier is the most beautiful, brazenâ "and expensiveâ "courtesan in all of Paris. Despite being ill with consumption, she lives a glittering, moneyed life of nonstop parties and aristocratic balls and savors every day as if it were her last. Into her life comes Armand Duval. Young, handsome, and recklessly headstrong, he is hopelessly in love with Marguerite, but not nearly rich enough. Yet Armand is Marguerite's first true love, and against her better judgment, she throws away her upper-class lifestyle for him. But as intense as their love for each other is, it challenges a reality that cannot be denied.(Publisher).

Hardcover. Etat : Fine. Limited Edition. Red cover with gilt title. Gold slipcase with red trim, slightly bumped on bottom spine. 7" x 10". Glassine fine. With an introduction by Henri Peyre. Hand colored illustrations by Edy Legrand and signed by the artist on the rear colophon page. Copy #128 of a limited fifteen hundred. From the introduction, "Next to The Three Musketeers and the thrilling story of Monte Cristo, Marguerite de Valois is the best known and the most ingeniously inventive of his novels. Dumas was attracted to the second half of the sixteenth century and to the reign of Louis XIII. The devious politics of the Valois dynasty, their love for plots and counterplots, for lurid executions provided an ideal background for the novelists who sought local color and melodramatic histories of love, fanaticism, and villainy." We, at Coalesce Bookstore, thank our customers and supporters, acknowledging that what we do would not be possible were it not for each of you. Books over 2.2 lbs require additional shipping cost outside US, approximately $40USD ($25USD for Canada). Signed by Illustrator(s).

Taschenbuch.
