Faithfully reproduced from the original issues, and uniformly bound in 3/4 contemporary black buckram over lovely marbled boards featuring gilt rules and lettering to the spines; speckled page edges. Extremities, and contents entirely without blemish with bright, clean, and unmarked pages and tight, sound bindings; fine. Appears unread; as new. Exceedingly rare in commerce. Our offering comprises of a near-complete, and consecutive run of this most important Icelandic periodical published between the years 1895-1954; this present offering lacking only Volume II (for the years 1905-6). Thorgeirssons' journal would chronicle the rich, and varied Icelandic settlements of North America, with many articles and biographies of prominent members within the diaspora and Iceland, local histories, announcements of family events, homilies, events affecting the Icelandic people, records of deaths, alongside poetry, and rich diversions into literary discussions and criticism. Additionally, nearly all volumes are rich with many black-and-white photographs, portraits, and illustrations, including many period advertisements by local businesses and merchants. Excepting the occasional advertisement which was printed in English, the text is, otherwise, exclusively in Icelandic. Stefán Einarsson writes in, 'A History of Icelandic Literature' (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1969, p.341): "Almanak Ólafs S. Thorgeirssonar (1895-1955) has, since 1899, included contributions toward the history of the various settlements in style with and inspired by the old Landnáma. Some periodicals were designed to delight rather than educate; these cannot be mentioned here". Collectively, the journals form an indispensable history and narrative of the North-American Icelandic community at-large. Chiefly overseen, and published under the direction of Thorgeirsson for much of its life, the journal would continue under the determined efforts of prominent North-American Icelandic scholar, academic, and a leader of the Icelandic community, Dr. Richard Beck of the University of North Dakota, following Thorgeirsson's death in 1937 until the periodical's demise.
