Bandes aus den `Disputationes de controversiis christianae fidei`, dem Hauptwerk des Jesuiten und Kardinals Roberto Bellarmino (1542-1621) zur Rechtfertigung des katholischen Glaubens. Das Werk galt lange Zeit als vornehmste Verteidigungsschrift des römischen Katholizismus. Viele protestantische Schreiber setzten sich deshalb mit der Schrift zur Rechtfertigung des protestantischen Glaubens auseinander. Nicht nur in der Theologie regten die Disputationes Widerspruch an, sondern auch der Philosoph Thomas Hobbes beschäftigt sich in den beiden letzten Kapiteln seines Hauptwerks Leviathan beinah ausschließlich mit der Verwerfung Bellarmins, den er häufiger als jeden anderen Autor in diesem Werk zitiert. - Das Gesamtwerk erschien von 1586-93 bei David Sartorius in Ingolstadt 1586-93 T.I.: [7 Teile]; T.II.: [5 Teile]; T.III.: [3 Teile]. 8°. Meursium, 1619, in-8°, 18 cm, (16) nn pp (title with engraved vignet) + 532 pp + (4) nn pp (with woodcut printer's mark) (complete). Bound in contemporary full calf. Sound binding but with some damage at the extremities (more so at the top of the spine). Title page with a stamp erased, causign a tiny hole , no text loss. Stiil a good/fine copy. Provenance: From the library of a decendant of the Plantin printer family : Count Moretus Plantin, mayor of Stabroeck (Stabroek), with his rubber stamp on the first fly leaf. Count Moretus, living on his estate ''Ravenhof'' in Stabroek was a long time mayor during the first half of the 20th c.
