Trade Paperback. Etat : Very Good. Second Printing. 241 Pages Indexed. Tight square book that by appearances has not been opened. Covers show very minor shelf scuffs. Interior text pages are flawless. The years between 1763 and 1783, between the Treaty of Paris that closed the French and Indian War and the Treaty of Pars that ended the American struggle for Independence, had a significance not entirely related to the Revolutionary War. During those two decades pioneers first breached the Appalachian mountain barrier to plant Anglo-American civilization in the interior valley of the continent. This was an even of major importance. The frontier was already nearly a century and a half old when backwoodsmen began raising their cabins at Boonesborough, Harrodsburg, and Boiling Springs Station in the Kentucky Blue grass, but expansion in this prior differed markedly for that preceding it. In earlier times settlers were bounded by the mountain chain that rimmed the coastal lowlands. Thus restrained, the pioneers had advanced slowly, and in relatively orderly fashion, building their settlements near older communities and keeping in touch with the civilization in which they had been reared. But the Daniel Boone generations felt no such psychological restraints. As they crossed the mountain barrier, they saw a limitless new world awaiting their conquest. This exciting realization inspired an urge for pioneering that was affect generations to come. The Westward expansion became a way of life for many.Contentes in 12 Chapters: Background and Setting, Pressures for Expansion, Expansion in the North, Expansion in the South, The Struggle with the Indian Tribes, Whits Tories and Neutrals, The Initial Years of the War 1776-1779, Victory and Stalemate, The West in the Diplomacy of the Revolution, State and congressional Land Policy, Government and Law in the Back Country, and /the Economy and Society of the Back Country. Plus Foreword, Preface, List of Maps, Notes, and Bibliography.
