This is the last of three volumes on the Bornu Mission (1822-25) which form part of a series of volumes on the exploration of the Niger. They consist of the edited text of the 'Narrative of Travels and Discoveries in Northern and Central Africa in the Years 1822,1823 and 1824' by Major D. Denham, Captain H. Clapperton and Dr W. Oudney. The first volume contains the editor's introduction and the first two annotated chapters of the Narrative. The second volume covers the Mission's exploration of Bornu and adjoining countries, with full notes and reconstructed itineraries of the various expeditions. This third volume is devoted to Clapperton's account of his exploration of Hausa and his stay in Sokoto, together with a reconstructed itinerary of his journey and full notes. (SL#51D/52C) (#58).
