Paher notes that these reports are "indispensable primary source material.". Presentation inscription, SIGNED by Browne to "Editor, Silver Bend Reporter Belmont, Nye County, Nevada. With Complements of J. Ross Browne." Following a silver strike in 1865, the rush was on to Belmont, Nye County. With the first rush was Mahlon Dickinson Fairchild who began his Weekly Silver Bend Reporter as Editor, manager and operator on March 30, 1867. The paper lasted just over a year to July 29, 1868. Here, Browne has inscribed this copy to the Editor of the paper (Fairchild). Further, Fairchild has penned a Presentation inscription, signed: "Presented to the Society of California Pioneers by M. D. Fairchild. See pages 268-321." The page referenced contain a fine history of California from the discovery to the Gold Rush, an address delivered before the Society by Edmund Randolph at their tenth anniversary of the admission of the State into the Union.[Cowan: pp.79-80; Edwards, Enduring Desert: p.36; Paher, Nevada An Annotated Bibliography: 223; Sabin: 8664].
