Hardcover. Etat : VG/Poor. First Canadian Edition. Originally published in Little Folks Magazine in 1901 with black and white illustrations, this has six plates coloured by Harry Rountree with Rackham's permission as well as 12 black and white illustrations. This is the Canadian issue identical to the British edition by Duckworh with a cancel Musson title page and Musson imprinted at the bottom of the spine, and probably printed with a very small print run. Presumably issued at the same time as the 1910 Duckworth edition and there is a gift inscription dated Easter 1914. Bound in gilt-titled brown cloth with a large rectangular paste-on, TEG. Most of the original red jacket is present although it is in two pieces and completely missing the spine with a large title paste-on with the smaller illustration pasted on to that. Aforesaid gift inscription, very light wear to the book, some tanning to the endpapers, some mild white spotting on spine. Besides missing the spine the jacket has considerable wear along the top edge. A very nice copy of a scarce Rackham, even more scarce in the Canadian issue, and spectacularly rare in jacket, regardless of condition. 130 pp.
