Slight abrasion to FFEP where a price decal was removed. Photo-illustrated dust jacket price-clipped and with crease on front panel. A handsome, eminently presentable copy. Creighton Burnham was superintendent of the State Industrial School for Girls in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, where she oversaw "two hundred seventy-six girls from the scrap heaps of society." In one, the subject of this book, she saw potential.Inscribed by the author: "To Mrs. -- -- / With sincere best wishes / Creighton Brown Burnham". Super-cool gritty b&w photo-illustrated dust jacket. Laid-in is a publisher's survey request, asking where the reader learned of the book, what prompted its purchase, etc. Basis for a controversial 1974 movie featuring 14-year-old Linda Blair in the title role. A handsome copy. The dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, archival sleeve.
