Artist Jan Stussy's copy with a somewhat abstracted reddish watercolor sketch of a plant of tree in a pot on inner jacket flap, signed two pages later in same medium, also signed in black ink (has minor wear and tears to wraps, bump to lower corners). PROVENANCE: From the library and with the signature of Jan Stussy (1922-1990), noted artist and Academy Award-winning filmmaker. 'Stussy, a West Coast artist with works in many museums and private collections. was a former chairman of the art department at UCLA and the first artist to be appointed as a senior professor by the university. Although he was primarily known as a prolific painter, with some 5,000 works to his credit, Mr. Stussy frequently worked in other artistic arenas. ''Gravity Is My Enemy,'' a film he produced and directed, won an Academy Award in 1977 as best documentary' (New York Times). Text in French. Series: Les Grands Peintres par Leurs Amis, 2. Bella e lunga DEDICA autgrafa di Henry Frugès al pittore e critico Leon Gard. FRUGES (Henry Baronnet), Bx le 17/12/1879 - 1974. Industriel (Raffineries Frugès, Grande Scierie de la Côte d'argent, import de produits coloniaux), peintre amateur (aquarelles et gouaches) et passionné d'art. Ses oeuvres sont très proches du fantastique. Il acquière en 1912 l'hôtel Daverne sis 63, place des Martyrs de la Résistance qu'il décide de remettre au goût du jour mais pas dans le « style bordelais ». Il fit appel à de nombreux artistes bordelais ou non dont Gaston Schnegg, Émile Brunet, Cazaubon, Buthaud, Daum. et l'architecte Pierre Ferret. La crise de 1929 le ruina. Après la vente de son hôtel, il se retira en Algérie au pied des Aurès, vivant sous une tente. Ce passionné de « modernité » fit appel à Le Corbusier pour construire des logements sociaux à Pessac et Lège destinés à ses ouvrier. Axs. Dedica dell'autore.

Mariette" & Braque's wife Marcelle "Mon bon souvenir pour Vous et Votre famille - M. B." and signed by Georges Braque in blue ballpoint ink "mes amities - G. Braque", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Braque in his artist's workshop (altogether 8,25 x 11,75 inch), with browning and very mild signs of wear - in fine to very fine condition.

One of 21 copies, all on Fabriano paper, each signed and numbered by the artist and designer, Libero Badii, on each plate and again on the colophon, and by Ernesto Lowenstein and Samuel Cesar Palui, the publishers, on the colophon. Page size: 5-11/16 x 7-9/16 inches; 24pp. Bound: loose in publisher's printed wrappers of Japan paper, auther and title printed in black on front cover, housed in publisher's tan linen slipcase with Fabriano paper mounted on front with title, author, artist, and number of each copy in Badii's hand, fine. Illustrated with three full page aquatints and one quarter-page aquatint on the title page by Libero Badii clearly inspired by the art of Georges Braque but just as completely original works of art by this talented artist. The density of the each print is balanced by the type set on the opposite page making as harmonious a page design as one could want.

Impression de PAB du frontispice réalisé par Braque pour l'édition originale de Jeanne qu'on brûla verte.Rare tirage réimposé, justifié à sept exemplaires par PAB et signé par René Char de ses initiales. Le tirage du livre fut de 12 exemplaires sur Chine et 87 exemplaires sur vélin de Rives, tous illustrés du dessin de Braque. Il fait suite à un premier tirage paru le mois précédent, non illustré, détruit par PAB.

In parts: "Mon cher Leymarie, Votre lettre m`apporte une bonne nouvelle. Je suis heureux de penser que vous allez écrire quelque chose sur une toile que j`aime beaucoup et qui marque je crois une époque dans mon oeuvre. Il y a longtemps que les oiseaux et l`espace [.] En 1910 j`avais peint des oiseux mais ils etaient incorpores dans des natures mortes tandis que dans mes dernier choses. j`ai été tres tanté par l`espace et le mouvement pour la reste la peinture qui est mon langage [.]" Translated: "My dear Leymarie, Your letter brings me good news. I am happy to think that you are going to write something on a canvas that I like very much and which I believe marks an era in my work. [.] In 1910 I had painted birds but they were incorporated in still lifes while in my last things. I was very astonished by space and movement for the rest of the painting which is my language[.]".
