Laing, Sil. Doig Et A. Stirling, Et Gulillmum Blackwood. 1811. Front board is missing, rear board and spine are leather and extremely worn. fep is browned and slightly chipped, some chipping at rear endpapers, heavy foxing at endpapers, very light otherwise, pages are moderately browning throughout, some wrinkling, likely evidence of past dampness, some wrinkling at the rear pages upper right corner.

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Autograph; (iv), 388 pages; Volume 2 only. Former owners' signature on ffep and tp - John Steinfort Kidney (1819-1911) - philosopher and poet. Text block unmarked and secure in 19th century binding of half calf over marbled boards; gilt letterring at spine. Rubbed at extremities, rear hinge tender; text block quite clean, eps and tp toned. Rev. John Steinfort Kidney [Kedney] was a noted 19th century American author. His best known published work is Catawba River and Other Poems. He was born in 1819 in Essex County, NJ, educated partly at Union College, first pursuing the law before redirecting his studies to philosophy at the General Theological Seminary. After his ordination he was rector of a parish in North Carolina, and later one in Salem, NJ. He was a clergyman of the Protestant Episcopal Church, in Saratoga Springs, NY. His verses show an individual temperament, and the tastes of a scholar and thinker. [American Cyclopedia, 1855] ; Signed by Notable Personage, Unrelated.
