"The works of Sallust, a Roman historian from the first century BC, and the earliest Roman historian with surviving works in his name. Includes his history of the Cataline war, the war against the Numidian King Jugurtha, and fragments of his Histories." Bold signatures and inscriptions of three former owners detailing the ownership povenance of the book. Showing general overall wear, page toning and rubbing, binding remains strong. A nice example of an early american imprint of a classic of Roman history. Size: Tall Octavo.

First edition of Thysius the Younger s scholarly edition, with both the text and extensive commentary in Latin. Sallust was a Roman Historian, best known for his narrative writings on political personalities, corruption, and party rivalry. His Opera encompasses several works including the famous War Against Catiline and The Jugurthine War, the former a plot devised by the Roman Senator Catiline who planned overthrow the Roman Senate. Sallust characterized Caitiline as a symbol of the moral decline of Rome.
