L. Ferrar. First Edition, uncommon. This is a diary for George Calladine, who served as a Colour-Serjeant for the 19th Foot Infantry. These diary entries are dated from 1793 to 1837, with chapters detailing events from 'Birth' to 'Marches to Hull via Canterbury', 'Sails for Ceylon', and other military escapades. Edited by Major Michael Lloyd Ferrar (1876-1971), who was a British Indian army officer, civil servant, and chief commissioner for the Penal Settlement at Port Blair on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Some marks to boards, with fading along extremities, head and tail of spine, and raised bands of joints. Very light edge wear to the extremities. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. A few unopened page leaves throughout text, mainly to the rear. Very Good. book.
