Hardcover are half-bound in brown leather over green cloth. Five raised bands on spine with gilt lettering. Top edges gilt. Matching green cloth endpapers. 31 sepia monochrome plates, including frontispieces, each with a titled tissue guard. White satin index ribbons. Title pages have red floral border. Edited by Elisabeth Luther Cary. While the interiors are in excellent condition, the leather is rubbed and a little powdery at the corners, edges, and ribs with some fraying and small splits. Volume one has two-inch split at bottom of front hinge; the front cover of volume two is entirely detached but present. All illustrations and tissue guards are present and in good condition. Volume one is entirely missing the index ribbon; volume two has remains of index ribbon between pages, but it is no longer attached. Pages very lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple; faint tanning on the page that follows each plate. Pages clean and unmarked. 273 + 289 pages. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.

Bound in full decorated blue leather boards decorated with gilt titles and design present to the boards. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities. Previous owner's bookplate present to the reverse of the front board. Text is free of marks and notes. Wear present to the hinges. The famous Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti was also a celebrated poet, scholar and translator, whose works influenced the European Symbolists, serving as a precursor of the Aesthetic movement. His early poetry was influenced by John Keats, whilst his later verses were characterised by the complex interlinking of thought and feeling, as demonstrated by his masterpiece, the sonnet sequence, The House of Life .
