Hardcover. Etat : Fair. 2nd Edition. RARE, SINGLE VOLUME. 78 noteworthy Illustrations by "Mr. T.W. Wood." The biggest fault is a 1 1/2 x 1 inch cut out from the top of the spine. The others are consistent with the advanced age of this piece of history. The first page has the following in ink in beautiful script: Francis Woodbridge. Cambridge Mass 1897. On the title page is written beautifully: F. Woodbridge 1897. The first two pages have pulled away from the spine together. A sticker seems to have been removed. and there is a 1 1/4 inch chunk out of the top tip. The spine has pulled away but is still attached by exposed hinges. The hard covers are deep maroon with attractive, black designs front and back. "The Descent of Man" is in faded gold gilt on the spine. The tips and spine ends are worn. Rubbing occurs. The inside (except for the two pages just mentioned and pgs. 275-294 attached only by one of the binding strings) remains tightly bound, age-toned with two indentations that appear as a slight wave vertically. In the preface, Darwin notes that in this second edition of his 1971 publication he was able to "introduce several important corrections" and "new illustrations." He further states: "My conviction of the power of sexual selection remains unshaken." Complementary postage and delivery confirmation to the US. Exact cost to international buyers. No hassle, 100% money-back guarantee.
