Hardcover. Limited Edition. SIGNED. Large quarto [32 cm] Original brown cloth with woodcut illustration mounted on the front board. The binding is in lovely clean and bright condition. Illustrated with a total of 41 mono tipped in woodcuts, printed on fine paper and mounted onto blank pages with printed tissue guards. Some foxing, primarily to the endpapers and preliminary leaves, but a few spots on some of the blank mount pages, none of this affecting the woodcuts. In the publisher's printed dustwrapper, with a few small nicks and a little rubbing. The wrapper is toned, but is in very good condition. Overall, a better than very good copy of this beautiful book. One of 450 copies, each numbered and signed by Leighton on the limitation page. Clare Leighton is most known for her illustrations of agrarian life in England, Europe and the American South. Her work often shows people engaged in various work or types of activity. "During her extensive career, Leighton carved more than 900 woodblocks, and designed numerous book illustrations, and mosaics and stained glass windows. Although known primarily for her work as a printmaker, she was the author of seven books." - National Gallery of Art website.
