Etat : Very good. First Edition. Large 4to (285 x 210 mm). 351, [1] pp. Title-page printed in red and black, frontispiece portrait of Aldus Manutius. 141 works described, each with one or more accompanying illustrations in color. Original green cloth (trifle shelf-wear), Aldine dolphin and anchor on front cover printed in gold. Edition limited to 500 copies, now scarce in commerce. The indespensable monograph which accompanied the sensational exhibition "Aldus Manutius: A Legacy More Lasting than Bronze" held at The Grolier Club 25 February - 25 April 2015. The majority of the items in the exhibit came from the private collections of G. Scott Clemons and H. George Fletcher. The preface and descriptions were written by Clemons and Fletcher (the latter wrote the essays "Jean Grolier, Aldus Manutius, and the Aldine Press" and "Jean Grolier's 1514 Aldine Virgil on Blue Paper." With an extensive bibliography and three indices. The book was designed by Jerry Kelly, who also specially designed a beautiful typeface ("Grolier") for it, based on successive Roman fonts created by Aldus (first used in 1495) --> Bembo (Stanley Morrison, 1929) --> Griffo (Mardersteig, 1939) --> Yale (Matthew Carter, 2004).
