Illustrated with instructional drawings and with photographs. Very good, half-title page corner clipped presumably to excise a previous owner's signature; in very good dust jacket with some shallow edge flaws. A guide to acting aimed at young and or amateur actors wishing to polich their skills. Includes sections on actors stage locations, body grace, tone and delivery, the hands, the eyes, breath control, diction, laughter and tears, releasing your emotions, how to study a part, make up, stepping into character, etc. Colvan beagn his career as a performer, stage manager and director in the early part of the 20th century; was specnt six years general stage director for Flo Ziegfeld, directing the original "Show Boat", "Three Muskateers', "Roslaie" and the "Ziegfeld Follies". He went on to become General Stage manager for the St. Louis Municipal Opera which was, at the time of this publication, the largest al fresco theater in the United States. and where he directed productions ranging from light musical comedy to grand opera. Over his career, Colvan directed such stars as Eddie Cantor, Irene Dunne, Fred Astaire, Marie Dressler, Frank Morgan, Ed Wynn, Joan Crawford, Al Jolson and others.
