Edition originale
Octavo, pp. [i-vi] vii [viii] [1-2] 3-292, original navy blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in red and gold, bottom edge untrimmed. First edition. Collects seven stories. The title story, a sympathetic portrait of a bomb-throwing suffragette, may have been influenced by the author's marriage in 1911 to Janet Elizabeth (Hogarth) Courtney, a prominent feminist who, curiously, expressed anti-suffragist views. "Corentine" is a rather longish story in which the heroine sells her soul in order to help the man she loves. Cloth a little spotted, text pages foxed early and late and on edges, a bright, very good copy of a scarce book. (#128417).
