Cloth over bevelled boards, gilt cover device and black-ruled borders, title-page in red and black, top edge gilt, 8vo, 26 cm, xxii, 696 pp frontispiece portrait. The Crace collection of some 6000 items was sold to the British Museum in 1880. From the preface: " The Table of Contents will enable the enquirer to search with ease for any particular Map, Plan, or View. In forming the Catalogue I have adopted the actual titles of the engraved Maps and Views, and have attached the dates where they can be found. I have also given the sizes of every Drawing and Print, the first dimension being the width, and the second the height of the plate, this last in some few cases including the title." The catalogue remains an important reference. Crace's ambition was to have an illustration of every noteworthy London building. Many of the drawn views listed have artistic as well as antiquarian interest. The maps, some of which are very rare or unique, form a continuous series, illustrating the growth of London from 1560 to 1859. Many of the plans listed are of important properties, such as the Grey Friars, the Grosvenor estates, the Bank, etc. Others relate to the Rebuilding of London, for Improvements, the Sewers, Environs, etc., There is also a section of 'Illustrations of Frost Fairs on the Thames.' Tiny sticker taped to spine, worn at spine-ends and corners, joints rubbed, upper fore-edge corner of front board bruised, hinges slightly tender, one leaf (xiii/xiv) detached but present, some light foxing, a serviceable copy of an important reference.
