Softcover. Etat : Very Good. Noted juvenile fiction author Margaret Maze Craig's mid-century tale of 17-year-old Marsha Whitney's first love. First Berkley Books edition following the Thomas Crowell hardcover edition. G-109. Dave Attie cover art of teenage dreamy-eyed girl laying on the floor by her record player. Attie "was a prominent American photographer, widely published in magazines and books from the late 1950s until his passing in the 1980s. He was one of the last great proteges of legendary photography teacher and art director Alexey Brodovitch. Attie worked in a wide range of styles, illustrating everything from novels to magazine and album covers to subway posters, and taking now-iconic portraits of Truman Capote, Bobby Fischer, Lorraine Hansberry, and many others. He also created the first-ever visual depiction of Holly Golightly, the main character in Breakfast at Tiffany's, when he illustrated the Capote novella's first appearance in Esquire Magazine. He was best known in his lifetime for his signature photo montages an approach he called 'multiple-image photography': highly inventive, pre-Photoshop collages that he made by combining negatives in the darkroom. His work has received new attention with a pair of posthumous books: the well-reviewed 2015 publication of his Capote collaboration "Brooklyn: A Personal Memoir, With The Lost Photographs of David Attie," and the 2021 collection of his behind-the-scenes photographs from the very first season of Sesame Street, "The Unseen Photos of Street Gang." He has been the subject of several solo exhibits in recent years, including a two-year retrospective at the Brooklyn Historical Society. One recent critic wrote that even decades later, 'his explorations of photomontage remain durably inspired, innovative, and visually dynamic.'" 192 pp. 6 3/8" x 4 1/8". Tight, unmarked copy with faint corner crease to top of front panel, very faint crease to spine panel and inconspicuous area of light spotting to back panel. Internals with light age toning. A presentable copy of a hard to find Attie collectible. Photographs of or additional information about this item are available on request. All inquiries answered promptly.

Hard Cover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. First edition. Signed by author on front free endpaper with inscription, "Sincerely." No jacket. Spine lightly faded. 1952 Hard Cover. 247 pp. Julie takes place on a fictional co- ed college campus. Now colleges in the 50's were completely different than most universities today, think of those very strict rules in the movie Mona Lisa Smile. There was a definite curfew, ladies and gentle men needed permission to leave the college campus, and there were assigned lunch tables and positively no drunkenness. Julie Sheldon is a freshmen and she has a mad crush on Greg, the college football hero who is a rake and a shameless flirt. He does not notice Julie at first but he sure does regard Julie's roommate Fran, a rather aloof, confident unfriendly girl. Julie struggles with her feelings of jealousy toward Fran and her frustration with the college boys who never seem to notice her with the exception of one man. He is an older student with a decided limp and when he and Julie share a dance she feels everyone's stare upon her as her partner, Tim, is hampered from smoothly whisking her around the floor. Julie and Tim begin a sweet friendship that actually is much more to Tim than to her. Tim is exceptional in every way except he is just not Greg, Julie's ideal man and this is the struggle that Julie must wage, who does she really want as her steady guy.
