Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. First Edition. Tall 8vo. Pp. 299. Frontis. map. Illustrated with many b&w photos. The appendix is a history of Yukon River steamboats. Bound in blue cloth with lettering and rules stamped on front cover and spine. Slight offsetting to opposing pp. 96 - 97, due to a laid-in newspaper clipping, now removed. A slight, superficial abrasion to the front cover (see photo). The scarce dust jacket with chips and fading to spine. Previous owner bookplate on front pastedown. Inscribed to that same owner by Walter Curtin on the half-title page. A worthy and authoratative view of the commercial traffic on the Yukon River, provided with hindsight. The Yukoner was marooned in river ice during the winter of 1897-98. Inscription reads: "To -- -- , a lover of the wilderness. From Walter Curtin, May 19, 1938." Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival protector. RICKS, p. 76; SMITH, 2165.
