Blue Cloth. Etat : Good-VG for age. No Jacket. 1st ed. f/piece with tissue guard+viii+25243 further photo-plates ex-pagination; two early private provenance stamps, one to front pastedown, the other top t.p., these are quite inoffensive - a small (5 x 0.7 cms) oblong with 'Chippens Bank' inside a border; gutter opening before p.9, exposing netting, incipient opening before p.89, last page quite heavily browned, otherwise internally clean, tight & unmarked, plates collated complete; covers, with gilt lettering & motif to front and gilt lettering to spine, generally clean but slight corner bumping and joints rubbed, spine ends good though very slight rubbing. Taken as a whole the book feels just very slightly shaken. An interesting work by an author who claims, along with her sister, to have been the first European woman to visit the Igbo villages she studied, and whose photopgraphs must be the earliest record of their life-styles. Much on magic 'ju-ju', borth and death customs etc. Scarce. Note: quoted shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range. Size: 17 Cms x 24 Cms.
