Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 8vo. Hardcover. Pp. 271. In very good condition; professionally rebound in cloth binding with gilt title on the spine. Slight shelf-wear to cover such as rubbing at spine ends and slight bumping to corners. Small tears in the cloth along the spine and at the top, with some spotting to the cloth cover. Pages themselves are clean and unmarked with light foxing. Creases in the half-title, and some small smudges in the margins of page 101. Some light watermarks on page 123. Small tear at the bottom of page 132, and a crease running through page 257. Overall in very good condition. Supplement Only without other volumes. Containing the Explanation of Several New Tricks Lately Played in London, with Explanations of the Artifacts of Professional Gamblers. The sympathetic dials, perpetual motion, clever horses, talking dolls, dancing automatons, ventriloquists, elastic hooves, etc. Henri Descremps (or Henri Decremps) was a French magician, diplomat, and revolutionary activist.

Stain in outer margin to title and first pages, scattered foxing. Small burn mark (likely a candle) on final page of vol 1 not touching text, contemporary note to "voyez errata". Two volumes in one, xvi, 138 (2)pp; vi, (2), 287pp, 2 leaves of plates at rear. In text illustrations and frontispieces to each volume. 1784-85 First edition of Decremps' work on the inner workings of stage magic, going into detail on how a number of famous tricks worked. His book was as popular with the public as it was unpopular with magicians (especially the popular Joseph Pinetti who people assumed was the target of La Magie Blanche).
