Title page printed in red and black. Author's preface. Volume IX of The Authentic Edition, "printed from the edition that was carefully corrected by the author in 1867 and 1868". Not dated. 1901 is generally given as the date of publication of the Authentic Edition, although it appears that its 21 volumes were published over a period of several years (1901-6 according to the Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature). CONDITION. Poor. Spine dulled and somewhat cocked; board edges and corners rubbed. Front hinge torn; frontispiece loose though present; some internal cracks; some foxing, especially towards the beginning and end of the volume. A good reading copy.
