The complete set of six parts, each containing three photogravures of Dickens character portraits by Barnard, one of the best of his many delineators, plus numerous wood engravings, mostly depicting architecture and views of early 19th century London. The text, by a noted historian and author of Vanishing London and similar works, is replete with historical facts which serve to provide the fascinating background of the novels' places and, often, the individuals on whom their characters were based.
