"A monumental work of twenty years' study of electromuscular stimulation to determine the proper action which the muscles possess in life." (Garrison & Morton). Published in France in 1867, this is the first American edition of the work. Book is fine, clean and unmarked, with bright spine gilt. Slipcase has a small corner split and a small chip to the bottom corner surface paper at the entries, and is otherwise very good, clean and bright, with fine spine title. Extremely scarce.

Il décrit plusieurs affections musculaires et localise leur origine, comme cest le cas d`une forme d`atrophie musculaire qui porte aujourdhui son nom, (la myopathie de Duchenne). Il travaille également sur la poliomyélite, individualise pour la première fois chacun des muscles de la face et inaugure la technique de la biopsie en inventant un instrument permettant de prélever des échantillons de tissu à l'intérieur du corps. DUCHENNE de Boulogne Guillaume-Benjamin Armand Duchenne de Boulogne ( geb. 1806 - gest. 1875 ) war ein französischer Physiologe und Neurologe, einer der Gründer der modernen Neurologie. Duchenne classified the electrophysiology of the entire muscular system and summed up his findings in the above work.
